CCSC Spectrum of durability
Find out what stencil material is best for your project:
Mylar
Mylar is a slick polyester plastic sheeting. It has become our default over the years because it is durable and cuts well on a laser. This material has an endless array of applications and is simple to use.
Great for: boxes, crates, concrete, walls, artwork, logos, shipping containers, crafts, signs, turf, curved surfaces (4” diameter +)
Not for: sandblasting, heavy paints, very high heat
Oilboard
Marsh brand oilboard is an oil treated, semi-rigid paperboard that uses a propriety blend of oils, fine-tuned over a century, to help resist permeation from paints and inks. This material punches way above its price point.
Good for: boxes, crates, walls, artwork, logos, shipping containers, crafts, signs
Not for: sandblasting, heavy paints, tight curves, very high heat
Easy Cut
Lovingly called Easy Cut, this polyethelene plastic material has a low-tack adhesive backing that holds the stencil in place during painting and easily peels away when done. A clay coating helps prevent paint or ink from running.
Great for: crates, walls, artwork, logos, shipping containers, crafts, signs, curved surfaces (1” diameter +)
Not for: sandblasting, heavy paints, very high heat
Magnetic Vinyl
Our magnetic vinyl material is great for applying letter and number sets to steel. It’s also great for logos under 20” x 20”. We’ve found that going too large will cause the material to rip under its own weight while handling. We’ll check your size in your RFQ.
Great for: steel and steel only – such as steel pipes, steel shipping containers, steel parts
Not for: anything not steel, large stencils, heavily painted surfaces
1/10” Plastic Material
Our 1/10” plastic material is a polished 1/10th inch thick low density polyethylene made using a medical grade resin. In laymens terms, it is light, flexible, and extremely durable. We can go very large with this material.
Great for: roads, playgrounds, turf, parking lots, walls, logos, industrial, heavy use
Not for: small details, sandblasting, very high heat, tight curves
